#CUT: we have some new scissors in the house. Nothing expensive, but they are very important, as anyone forced to use crappy scissors will know. These three are designed by the - extremely competitive - Japanese. The first two have blades that curve away from each other in order to maintain a more constant angle throughout the cut, which is the bane of conventional scissors and results in worse cutting performance near the tip of the blades. The first pair, the #FitcutCurve, are curved all the way along, and are titanium coated to resist difficult materials. And a 30-year guarantee. Sweet. They also made a fluorine-coated version which does not stick to packing tape, when opening parcels. Which we are probably all doing a lot of. The second pair, the #KokuyoSaxa, is straight with a curve at the end to improve cutting power when almost closed. A solid pair of conventional scissors for general use. Also comes in a fluorine-coated version. Finally, the #RaymaySwingcut, which has a pivot offset from the axis so that one blade travels further than the other, the added friction enhances the cutting power and the pivot also has the useful side effect of pushing paper away from your hands as you cut. #Japanese scissor technology has advanced past #Sheffield in the quest for ultimate performance. I do love Japanese #stationery, perhaps a little too much, but scissors are a crucial item in the home and crappy ones are really not worth bothering with. #lifeimprovementspecialist

#HOBONICHI2021: when the personal highlight of my year is the annual delivery from #Japan, you may scoff, but I contend that in these troubled times it shows incredible optimism to order a 2021 diary. So there. #stationery #hobonichi #techo

I am no chef, but couldn’t resist a new and high-tech bit of #stationery - the paper is made from stone, unusual and sometimes hard to find, but it’s water and grease resistant, unbelievably smooth due to the lack of fibres and well-suited to a messy environment. Just be sure to use waterproof ink. The back cover is magnetic to stop the notebook sliding around on steel kitchen surfaces. Very cool. Don’t have a use for it yet, though! #notebook #chefsnotebook #stonenotebook📓

Further adventures in #Japanese #stationery. The #Raymay #pencutmini is 3.7 inches long and lives in my pencil case as a perfectly great pair of scissors when needed :)

Out with the old and in with the new, in this case, the #Japanese #Hobonichi #Techo for #2017 as it has narrower spacing for my tiny handwriting. #stationery #geek

I thought I had lost it, but after many months, it has reappeared! This is a #messograf pen, from #germany, but it is really a pocket #vernier calliper, which allows for very accurate measurements. This is how it works - measuring the width of an iPhone cable. The first notch gives you the rough measure. It’s 3mm plus. Then, you look to see which of the other notches is mostly closely in perfect line with the measuring scale. It looks like the 8th one. The cable is 3.8mm in diameter. #stationery

Ermagerd - a #Casio #fx451-M from the 1980s. Amazing #calculator but needs its backup battery replaced. Who does that kind of thing nowadays? #stationery

#5. One last pic. Not in my #pencilcase, but always nearby. My favourite pen, the one used everyday because I really love the act of writing. It’s bolted into my #hobonichi planner, and it’s a #Pilot #Capless or #VanishingPoint with an #EF nib. The nib retracts into the barrel with a click. No cap to lose, never dries out, always ready to write without a shake. Never leaks, and the clip acts like a grip for your fingers and stops the pen rolling off onto the floor. And the nib is as smooth as you like, if you’ve never used a #fountainpen, this is the one to get. Your hand and arm won’t hurt writing with this - ballpoints need so much pressure to make a mark, but this doesn’t. So much love for this pen. Filled with #Diamine #RedDragon ink. One of my friends took a very close interest in this pen a while back, which led to an anonymous tip to their other half and a particularly good Christmas present. Beg, borrow or buy one. An absolute must. #stationery
