We entered into Baja California through Tijuana; We eventually left through Laredo, by way of Guatemala and El Salvador. The long way.
So much of Mexico appears untouched, but it is merely uninhabited, for now.

Frequent Military Checkpoints on the roads, more interested in traffic heading North than South.
The Americans, as fearful as ever, had left us terrified of Mexico and violence, and our nervousness lasted until the first big town south of Tijuana, Ensenada, and vanished with the first moment we walked into Hussong’s Cantina and met the locals. It was plain-sailing all the way through Mexico and back.
