Cuban Boxers have a great reputation and record, despite their limited training facilities. In Holguín, the gym is rudimentary, to say the least. A patchwork canvas of a ring, no water, no electricity, empty deodorant bottles used for skipping rope handles. An old empty gas cylinder used as a bell, hit with a long bolt with a nut rusted onto the end.
But these are pretty peripheral; the effort, training and practice is what makes these kids and teenagers outstanding.
The facilities are as bare as you can imagine.
Home-made skipping ropes.
Despite the facilities, they keep bringing back Olympic Medals.
Cuban Boxers are second only to the US in Olympic success.
